HR24/500 Disconnects from Directv network

My HR24/500 network with 4 H24/100 receivers disconnects from the Directv network for no apparent reasons.  MRV will work fine for up to ~5 days at times then the HR24/500 will disconnect from the network and have to be reset to reconnect to the network almost daily for few days then it will be stable for a number of days.  The installation has a separate DECA near the HR24/500 that is connected to the Ethernet.  Does anyone know why the MRV  network is stable at times then becomes unstable?

One question.  Is the DECA module that connects from the coax feed to the router also fitted with an independent 18 v power supply.  If it is, and Internet is accessible on all of the boxes, then I'd suspect a possible bad built in DECA module on the problem DVR.  To reconfigure that DVR, disconnect AC power for a couple of minutes, then plug it back in.  The dish will reconfigure the network for that box.

dcd,

Thank you for the response.  The DECA does have it's own 18 v power supply to answer your question.  I assumed that your instructions to unplug from AC for a couple of minutes was for the DVR and not the DECA.  I did disconnect the DVR for a couple of minutes and let it reconfigure.  Everthing is presently working so I'll see how stable the MRV is for the next few days and will repost if the problem returns.

Thanks again!

You're welcome and glad it worked for you.  You understood my instructions correctly.  When you do a power off reset, the DECA system communicates with the SWM dish and the other connected receivers and establishes a fresh channel for communication, assigns new numbers etc.  The DECA and the SWM dish need to be powered on when you do this.

Hopefully your system will remain stable.  If not post back and we'll see what else we might try.

dcd,

It appears that my disconnect problem continues.  To try and fix it.  I have disconnected all components from power and then repowered them one by one.  I repowered starting with the power inserter, followed by the DECA, followed by the DVR followed by the remaining receivers. I allowed the  power inserter to be powered for 5 minutes before powering the DECA then waiting 5 more minutes before powering the DVR and allowing it and each receiver to become active before repowering the next receiver.  I can go for days without a disconnect then have it happen daily for few days, then go days again without a problem.

I was just wondering if you have any other ideas on how to resolve this problem?

Thanks,

younggener

Your reconfiguration sequence was done perfectly.  I'd guess you have a faulty module somewhere, possibly in the HR24.  How to prove that is the question.  Directv is pretty anxious to have this system work properly so maybe a CSR will replace the HR24, won't hurt to ask.

I have the same setup, with identical hardware, and have the same problem.  I am none to please about having to reset my DVR and recievers every few days.  Especially, when I am recording a show on the DVR and cant watch it on another receiver until it is done recording and I reset the DVR.  I left Comcast because of their anitquated, overpriced equipment, and this is not the result I was hoping for.  I have my fingers crossed for a firmware update or something.

To both posters. Count how many and what size splitters are installed on your system. Here are pics of the three types. Also confirm that all splitter ports not in use are capped with 75 ohm terminator caps.

I can confirm I have the four port splitter.  Three outputs go to the DVR and other receivers.  The fourth is connected to the DECA box.  No extra ports to terminate.

I am also having the same problem. I have the H24-100 and the HR24-100 with a DECA and it needs to be reset about every five days to keep the multiroom going. Today I started noticing several popups on the H24-100 saying it has been dissconnected from the network. Also I dont know if its related but the Web Apps and On Demand are not working either. I also have the 4 port SWM. 1 port goes to the HR24-100 1 port goes to the H24-100 and the other port to the DECA. DECA has its own 18v power. Anyone had any luck with this so far?

As of now, I am still having the problem.  Now that you mention it, my web aps don't work on the H24s either.  I am curious to know if the DECA affecting the my network, too. I am having trouble keeping all my devices connected to my wire ethernet network.  Xbox, PC, etc seem to sporadically disconnect.  I once tried renaming the HR24 from "livingroom" to livingroom2" and it worked for a moment, then the receiver lost the DVR again.

You're responding to a very old thread.  Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page.  Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's.    With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far.  And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.

I thought I posted my solution somewhere on this forum but I don't remember. My solution, which has been working for a long time, was to assign static IP addresses to each box. I think I manually set the ports for each one, too. Have had no issues ever since. You can set the IP in network settings someplace. You will have to open ports (2 per box) in your router. Don't think this is recommended and could be a coincidence but it works and I an .
