HR24-500 locks up when changing from HD to SD channel
I have been using a HR24-500 connected to a Sony TV via HDMI for at least 4 years with no major issue.
However, the screen would almost always flicker from black to static noise when changing channels.
About 9 months ago, the unit would lock up sporadically when changing channels with "no HDMI signal" message shown on screen; and I would need to power cycle the unit.
About 3 weeks ago, this behavior appears to occur with changing to a specific local channel with SD broadcast and even power cycling the unit would not resolve the issue.
I have since switched to component video to circumvent this issue but I just could not understand why this would happen to a local SD broadcast available OTA with no HDCP.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Marc,
Thank you for the message.
I bought a 3-pack HDMI cables (4K@60Hz HDR 18Gbps 36AWG) to replace all existing ones without success before posting.
I read that the HDMI voltage supply from the receiver might be unstable and they could impede the HDCP handshake.
So I bought a powered HDMI splitter in attempt to boost signal/power and see if that might work.
The splitter was installed yesterday and so far so good.
I have not experienced the lock up when switching to that specific local SD channel available OTA.
However, the lag is noticeably worse than switching to other HD and premium channels like HBO.
The splitter also got rid of the static noise screen flashes when changing channel. So I will settle for this solution for now.
Thank you for your interests.

Let's see if we can get your service back up to par, @epicurux.
We recommend that you switch out the HDMI cable for a new one and try a different port on the receiver. The HDMI cable and the port might be bad which could be causing the receiver to lock up.
Let us know if this works.

No, the TV does not have the latest firmware.
I decided not to update the firmware because the fixes only pertain to smart TV WiFi features that I do not use.
My TV is about 8 years old and I've had DirecTV for 10+ years.
I did not encounter this issue until a few weeks ago and the last firmware update was more than 3 years ago.
TV firmware is not likely to be the (Edited per community guidelines) cause.

I wonder if your receiver is set to native or something like that resolution of the channel. I used to have strange screen flashing when changing from different channels. Due to some being 720p or 1080i, or even SD channels.
But after changing the resolutions I wanted my receiver to only use seemed to fix all that. I only selected the highest setting, like 1080 or something. So when I change from 720 to 1080 it doesn't flip out my TV and force it to change resolutions.
Give that a try. Not exactly sure where or what the option is you want. Something relating to the resolutions your TV is capable of. Although, I just did a search and found out AT&T removed that feature in 2019. So what do I know...

Hr24-500 progresses through setup & schedule builder but then goes to a black screen saying no signal and the receiver locks up. Cannot turn off or change channels, you have to unplug the receiver to power ot off.
