HR34 and the new GUI

I recently had DirecTV installed in my home.  I have the new HR34 and also the HR24.  The new GUI downloaded to the HR24 but not to the HR34.  DirecTV said the new GUI for the HR34 was released on 12/8/11 but won't be available in the Tampa market until the first quarter of 2012.  If it is available for the HR24 one would think it should be available for the HR34.  Does anyone know if you can force the download of the new GUI to the HR34 or do I have to wait until it is officially in the Tampa market?  Is it an accurate statement from DirecTV that the new GUI will be available in the first quarter of 2012?
