HR44 vs HR54 vs Genie 2

Hello,

I currently have a HR44-700 Genie recording box that goes out to 3 C31-700 mini boxes. I also have two order boxes, H21-100 and a HR22-100.

I am about to upgrade my TV that is connected to my HR44 box to a 4K Samsung QN90A Neo QLED. I am also going to add another 4k tv to another room.

My questions are this:

Should I just upgrade to a HR54 box, hard wire it to the new tv and add one wireless mini for the other new tv and replace the two older boxes with wireless mini's too?

Can the tv connected to the main HR54 be hard wired to send 4K to the tv?

Does a 4K output go to a wireless mini on 4k tv?

Or do I have to go to the Genie 2 to accomplish all of this criteria?

Thanks in advance

1. The HR54 does not deliver 4K video over its HDMI OUT. But it can feed 4K channels to a wired C61K Mini Genie.  And it can only feed one 4K C61K.

2. No wireless Mini Genies support 4K channels. Only the wired C61K.

3. If you went with the HS17 Genie Server "upgrade", you'll need to ditch your older non-Genie boxes. HS17 only supports Genie equipment. But with the HS17 you can feed two different 4K TVs using a wired 4K C61K Mini Genie on the 4K TVs.

Litzdog911, so what do you think is the best way to have equipment given my scenario?  The new tv that is currently hardwired HDMI to the HR44 box is a 4k TV.  the other new tv is also a 4k but is not hardwire to any of the system. That is why I was going to do a wireless since no cables are run to this new area.

How do you recommend doing the equipment given I will want to watch tv in 4k on my main box new tv?

If you want 4K channels on both 4K TVs, then you're only option is an HS17 Genie Server. The Genie Server can be installed just about anywhere since it doesn't actually connect to a TV. Then you use 2 C61K wired Mini Genies on the 4K TVs and replace your other boxes with either wired or wireless regular Mini Genies. You can't use the H21 or HR22 on a Genie Server setup.

Having a hr54 will allow you to keep your current h21 and hr22 .  No wireless 4k min.

You can have as many 4k c61k min as you have tv . The hr54 will record 4k and send that out over rg6 to 4kmin location.

Then you can watch live 4k from another location if you wish.

Having a hs17 you will lose your h21 and hr22.thats your choice..

So for my one 4K tv, it would get a 4k using the HS17 through a C61k mini that will be hardwired to the HS17?

ex: HS17 set up is power only and hooked to my wifi

the a hard wire runs from the HS17 to a C61k mini that is then hardwired to my 4k TV?

if so what cables are needed to run from HS17 to C61k. Then what cable from C61k to the 4k TV?

Thanks this is all very helpful. I just want to do it right one time.

You'll really need a service technician to set this up for you.

The HS17 must be connected to your satellite dish like other DirecTV Receivers/DVRs. It just doesn't connect to a TV. The HS17 also provides the SWM power supply for the satellite dish. If you want OnDemand stuff you'll need an internet connection to the HS17. The C61Ks require a satellite coax cable feed using SWM splitters, just like your existing boxes. The C61K connects to the 4K TV via HDMI cable.

The. Hs17 does not connect to any TV as it has no video out ports.

The c61k min connects hdmi to your 4k tv .just like all your curent mins a d receiver Ed's do.  The hs17 feeds all receivers over Rg6 network.

yes my plan is to have directv come and hook it all up, I am just looking to order the proper equipment. whether it is the HR54 or HS17. But from what you are telling me I can not get 4k to my new 4k TV unless I go the HS17 Genie 2 route. Is the correct?

I will replace both my old boxes and other minis as needed, those TVs are all not 4k at this point.

what I am trying to gain is 4k to my new tv and all others can fall into place.

Hey, @BobPGH We're glad to know you're considering to get our latest technology for your new 4K TV.

To enjoy 4K content, you need a HS17 (Genie 2), and it will be connected to the internet only, while at the same time, it's connected via wireless signal to the C61K genies. Then, you just will need a HDMI cable to connect the genie mini to your TV.

Thanks to all. This has been super helpful.

So @directvhelp if it is only connected to the internet only, do you no longer need the satellite dish? Which would help when losing signal during storms?

Only way to prevent that is go directv stream only

We're happy to help, @BobPGH

The DIRECTV signal is provided through the dish to the receivers, in this case without the dish, the service couldn't be provided because it's a satellite connection. You can visit the following article to find more info about 4K technology.

We'll be here if you have any extra question.

Despite at DIRECTVhelp posted earlier, the 4K Genie Mini is  NOT wireless. It must be connected via satellite coax cable to the HS17 and satellite dish.
