HR54/500 - BUG - Genie deletes all programs in group while deleting individual airings

I have tested this bug VERY carefully and can say with 100% certainty that I did nothing wrong, and it definitely exists in firmware 0x127f

When I look at a group of recordings of one single episodic show, I often want to delete episodes I have already watched or am not interested in seeing. I start at the bottom of the list, select that episode and press the RED button to delete it. A delete confirmation box shows up and I select Delete Now. That programs disappears from the DVR list and the next episode is selected.

If I repeat this process for multiple episodes of the SAME program, when I choose "Delete Now" while highlighting the SEVENTH program in the list (having deleted 6 previously), the ENTIRE GROUP OF PROGRAMS is DELETED. This has happened on the same HR54/500 at least FOUR TIMES now, and in the last incident (just now), I took very careful, slow steps to make sure I knew what was happening.

PLEASE don't tell me I need to reset the box or clear some settings. THIS IS A BUG. DIRECTV NEEDS TO FIX IT.

The strange thing about this bug is that it's not hitting everyone. I have yet to see it (thankfully!). It might have something to do with larger external eSATA drives?

I don't use an external drive.

Also just found out today that even deleting a SINGLE EPISODE can delete ALL the remaining episodes.

DirecTV is so ridiculous on how buggy their DVRs are vs how much they charge for service. It's shameful.

It only happens with a particular recent firmware release and most people don't have it.

This has happened to me 4 times over the last 2 months (twice in the last 2 weeks).

As anyone aware of a work-around? Very frustrating and it would be nice if we had some communication from Directv on action being taken.

How recent? I know this bug existed before firmware 0x127f, from 9/25/2019... My wife unintentionally deleted all the episodes of one of her shows at least 4 months ago, while I was in the room. I initially thought she had done something wrong, but now I realize that it was this bug, long before firmware 0x127f.

It has gotten worse since firmware 0x127f, but it definitely existed before 9/25/2019.

I think it's B$ that DirecTV can charge me over $130 a month for their service, but send out DVRs that don't work as expected.

DirecTV ADMITTING that their Genie DVRs have a serious BUG???

HA. That's hilarious!

I *think* it might be safer to "watch" the whole episode (fast forward through it), and choose to delete the episode at the end, but I can't be sure. I think at least once when I used this technique to delete individual episodes, the Genie STILL deleted all the episodes. It might also be safer to select the particular episode, press INFO, and delete it from that screen, but again, I can't be sure this works 100% of the time.

Most people here are probably too young to remember the DirecTV standard def R15 DVR, which was a huge hunk of junk when DirecTV first released it more than a decade ago. I was furious that I PAID $199 to OWN an R15 in 2006, only to find out that it didn't record shows like it was supposed to... sometimes the sound would be completely out-of-sync with the video, it would also lock-up and reset all the time, or - my favorite - it would record 30 minutes of black screen with no sound. DirecTV didn't admit to ANYTHING with all the problems they had with their first DVR, so I don't expect an apology, etc, now.

Any fix for this issue? This has happened to me twice now and there were 40 episodes all deleted at once. Extremely upsetting

I’m still deleting episodes from the DirecTV app on my phone. I don’t trust the DVR yet unfortunately
