I cannot receive local channels on the road

When i am on the road, I take my old RCA receiver which is a DRD480RE and a use a manual round SD dish on a tripod.

The problem is when I get in another location, I set up the dish and I receive all the pay channels but my locals are blocked out.  It the same message you get when a sports program is blocked.  I don't remember exactly what it says.

because you are out of the spot beam for your particular local channels.

to expand a bit, locals channels are beamed from the satellite in what is called a "spot beams" this beam is aim at specific markets. that needs those locals.  once you are out of the beam, you experience what you are seeing.  only way to get locals on the road, is to sign up for a RV account, which has access to the DNS feeds.

The DNS feeds referred to by peds48 would give you the network feeds broadcast from either Los Angeles or New York.

Thanks, so I need to call Directv and tell them I want the DNS feed for the road.  Is this free ??  Do I just ask them to turn them on when I go?

You'll need an "RV Account" to get the DNS stations.  Call DirecTV.
