I can’t manage the recordings

I know how to record. The issue I’m having is that I record a show, it then asks me if I want to record future recordings, I say yes, and 2 recordings of the same show appear. It fills up my dvr and then I have to go back and delete the duplicates. But when it’s time for the next season to start of a show, I miss it, because I had to make room in the dvr. Why does it need to make duplicates? Why can’t it just record future seasons within the same recoding? How do I manage this better and prevent future misses?
