I hope the internet connection being an extra charge is not true?

dcd mentioned:

There is some confusion as to whether a connection to the router is an automatic part of a DECA installation or a separate item (at added cost) on the work order.  One of the guys put our a request for clarification but we haven't head back yet.  One thing is for positive, you cannot connect a Cat5 cable to an open Ethernet port in a DECA system or the MRV will fail.

dcd,

You mentioned in the thread above regarding the router connection of the DECA installment. I can say that this connection wascovered under the price listed below, the first installer had the kit but since I already had the internet up and running he decided not to connect the kit. But instead connect the powerline to the second Ethernet input slot in the back of the HD DVR, which I posted and was corrected on the thread. In the earlier morning on the next day I called Directv and prior to noon the same day a new installer came out and after talking with his supervisor whom instructed him on how to install the internet correctly; he installed it without an extra charge, I also posted this information. I agree with you that there is confusion regarding the users being charged extra along with the upgrade. I would advise anyone that have call Directv for an Whole-Home DVR service installment to have the information email to them so they can cross check this information to what was said during the phone communication just be certain of what they are being charged.

1 Whole-Home Upgrd and ICK (Internet Connection Kit) $99.00

This morning on the internet, I came across this information on the internet.

Yes, I've read a lot of these type posts but they all have the same problem, they are the poster's opinion.  From the beginning it was my understanding that the $99 plus $49 covered everything required, including a proper connection to the router.  A few days ago stories began to surface regarding an extra charge, including a post from an installer who claimed the install was a totally different order number.  We've asked our Directv contact for clarification but have not heard back.

To further complicate matters Directv has added "TV Internet Connection" to the available order items (the wireless and powerline adapters are gone, they want everyone hard wired) and the price is $25 plus $49 install fee.  And then there have been a slew of improper network connections using a receiver's Ethernet port.

Time will tell, stay tuned.

dcd,

WOW! this is confusing and can be a problem, especially if you have to be hardwire to the receiver. Just imagine how long the installer will have to be a person home to install a line to the router. Not everyone will be please to have cables running throughout their home in plain view. I agree with you on the latter I was one of them.

Running a new cable to the router is no different and no more difficult than running a cable to a new receiver, and that's what installers do all day. In a lot of cases the network equipment (modem, router etc.) is probably co-located with the DirecTV equipment or there's a DIrecTV receiver already in the same room as the router that they can split off of for the Internet connection.

Even if they did add a $25 charge for the Internet connection, I don't think there would be a second $49 installation fee if done at the same time as the rest of the Whole Home installation.

sungam,

Not in my case my router is in another room  there is no Directv receiver in this room and I read on the forum another user had to have the cable run around the house to the office area where the router was located. I remember when I had the HD DVR installed a second cable had to run halfway around my home from the dish, the installer have to dug a small trench to bury the cable. I know it's all in day's work for the installer, but they are on a time require for a job at least in Tallahassee if they are late finishing a job it will delay them getting to next job. Which in turn that customer will be upset because they were scheduled to have they job done within a certain time. I was just making a remark because not all users have their routers located in the same room as the Directv receiver.

No doubt some installations are easier than others, but I suspect ones like yours are in the minority. And whether they're late to the next job because of a tough receiver install or because of a tough DECA install would seem to make no difference to the installer or the next customer... late is late.
