I need a land line to access all of Directv's offerings?

Apparently no one has informed Directv that it is 2010 and some services require a land line connection.  Is this true?  Does anyone know what exactly I would lose if I do not have a land line?  I am moving next week and I was actually excited to finally be free of Time Warner, If a land line is needed then Directv becomes to expensive to be worth it to me.

Thank you in advance for your replies.
