I need to hook up a speaker to my HR54-700

My 2 month old Onkyo AV receiver died and is in the shop waiting for parts to arrive. The factory repair center said that it could take a long time to come in. My current setup is using HDMI between the HR54 and the TV. My TV speaker is the pits for sound quality and my 27 years in the Army didn't help my hearing a bit. My TV has no audio out, only in. I would like to hook up my center channel speaker temporarily and thought that maybe I could use a 10-pin din cable to split out the audio. My center channel speaker has just the red and black wire connectors. Will this work? Do I need anything else? Thanks in advance!

The 10 pin din cable only outputs line audio that needs an amp to drive speakers.

Like shannon02 stated, you'll need an amplifier with volume control between the HR54 and your speaker.

I'm surprised that they wouldn't simply replace a 2-month old Receiver instead of making you wait for parts.

OK, that definitely adds expense. I don't see an inexpensive work-around for that. Thanks!

Yeah, that is what I was expecting--replacement. It wasn't cheap, not ready to shell out a lot of money for another one. It is just difficult to hear certain programs without having the volume way up.

The receiver has a 2 year warranty. The service facility is 150 miles away in NE Atlanta and its about time to give them a call.
