I think there is an issue with my SWM
I have 4 receivers in my house (2 standard, 1 DVR, 1 HD DVR) and all of the sudden my HD DRV is not working correctly. I'm getting a 771 error on only this receiver, all others are working fine. If I reset the HD DVR it will work for a bit but then start giving me the 771 error, and after awhile I simply get a grey screen, though I'm still getting all of the guide info. Reading through the forums it seems like this might be related to my SWM. I have not changed anything with my setup nor have I moved the SWM. I did try unplugging the SWM then reset the HD DRV with no luck. Is this an issue with the SWM and is there anything else I can try to fix this?

Try swapping this "bad" Receiver with one of your good Receivers. If the problem stays with the "bad" Receiver, you can be pretty sure it's defective. If the problem stays in its room, then something is wrong with the satellite feed into that room. Let us know what you find.

I took one of my standard receivers and moved it to that room. It worked completely fine, so I'm assuming the issue is with the HD DVR then. Guess I need to get DirectTV on the phone to get a replacement.

did you try plugging the hddvr in where the standard receiver was, just to be sure?
At any rate, sounds like a receiver swap may be in your future.

Thanks for the idea redneck_tech, I may try that this week. I did call Directv yesterday and have a service appt scheduled. I'm guessing they are going to swap out the DVR. Thanks for the quick replay as well litzdog911.

If that is your only HD box I suspect your dish is out of alignment. The HD channels are more sensitive to correct alignment, so if you connect an SD box in the same room where you were having problems it might easily work, it's not an effective test.
The tech on your service appointment will probably check your 99c/103ca/103cb signals and if they are low, will just do a realignment, he won't need to swap out the box.

I think texasbrit is on to something there. Problem could easily be caused by low signal strength. The LNB itself could also be the culprit. As said, aligning the dish is step1 if signal strengths on the 99 and 103 are low. Changing LNB would be my number 2.

Had the technician at my home today. Turns out there were two issues, HD signal strength was low and the dish needed to be realigned, However we were still having issues and he ended up swapping out the HD DVR with a new box. All is working now, thanks for the help and quick replies everyone!
