Info wanted for upgrading from old diretv tivo unit

I have an old Tivo/Directv DVR in my RV that one of the tuners went bad. I have the old standard dish on the roof with two coax coming from it to the 2 tuner inputs on the dvr. I would like to get a new DVR up and running and HD channels are not important right away, so my question is can I hook up an HR24 to the old dish, knowing I will get only sd channels? Do i need those BBC items? Would I need new card for the HR24 DVR?

Just want to get something working, then will decide what to do about new dish for the hd content.

Thanks

can I hook up an HR24 to the old dish,   YES

Do i need those BBC items?  not with a round dish, but yes if you ever upgrade to an HD dish.  having them on with a round dish does no harm

Would I need new card for the HR24 DVR?  Yes. and the HR24 should come with one.

Of course if you already have the HR24 and it's registered to your account, then you can use it like it is, including the card.  You'd need to redo the satellite setup to use the different dish.
