Installing a DECA myself

Hello all!

I scoured through other posts but didn't really find what I was looking for for my answer.

My question is, can I purchase a DECA online and install it myself? My current setup is:

-Whole Home DVR (HR24) and 2 HD Receivers.

-Currently, my main RG6 line is run for the satellite to the HD DVR in my living room. I then ran new wire to the same place to place my router near the DVR for future internet connection.

-If I am able to install a DECA on my own, do I need 3 for all 3 receivers or will one work to cover all 3? It seems as though I would install the DECA with both the internet feed and satellite feed into it, then into the receiver.

Do I have all of this correct? Any more tips/tricks/suggestions from everyone else would be great.

I don't want to pony up $75 to have a tech come out and do something I can do myself.

First important question is do you already have a Single Wire Multiswitch dish?  DECA requires that.

Also, what models are your HD Receivers?  The HR24 HD DVR has built-in DECA.

I believe I do have a SWM. I have something installed where the feed comes in that is plugged in to an outlet and an input and output for the satellite feed.

The other 2 HD receivers are the H24 models.

I know I cannot directly hook up the receivers to my home network via my router, as I totally messed up my WHDVR service last night trying to.  I now assume I need a DECA to complete the install on this. It seems relatively easy to do, just installing the satellite feed into the DECA, plug in a cat5 to the DECA, then connect the DECA into the HR24, right? Will I then be able to use VoD on all my receivers?

OK.  If you had professionally installed WHDVR service, then you should have SWM.  So you just need to buy a DECA adapter and power supply from http://www.solidsignal.com.  You'll also find configuration diagrams there (and in many threads here) with the proper connection info to "bridge" your WHDVR network to your home network/internet.

Actually, if you had Whole Home DVR service installed by Directv, then you are probably eligible for the TV Internet Connection service for just the $25 basic fee, sans the installation fee of $49.  It's certainly worth a try to call Directv.  You can't buy the parts for $25.
