Little confused...Is home networking thru a router really needed for Whole-Home DVR??
I have read many posts here and I'll admit I'm a little confused with the tech talk. So bare with me and forgive me if I get something wrong here.. It seems to me most people here have home networking, and those people that participated in this BETA test phase of the Multiroom DVR needed that. I understand that much. I was not one of those BETA testers. But... Do you absolutely need home networking through a router to work with this new DECA Whole Home setup? Because it seems like one post implies that you MUST have your receivers connected to the internet either thru wireless adapters, powerline, or straight up ethernet from a router. But, then another post seems to say this DECA takes care of that..(and I understand that DECA is what the new installation upgrade includes). So, since I live in a house that isn't wired for home networking, and all I have is a wireless-n router that feeds my wireless devices (iPhone, laptop, PS3, but no adapted DirecTV boxes)...Am I royally screwed here in that I CANNOT get this Whole Home thing without completely rewiring my home??? I'm just not clear on that..
**Side note: I understand you DO need DirecTV boxes connected to internet for On Demand services, but I'm not interested in that. I'm only interested in hooking up my DirecTV HD DVR with my two HD receivers to get recorded content on all three HDTVs.. That's it. That's certainly worth 3 bucks a month to me!!
Thanks for any help!

DECA modules take care of netwoking receivers together. You do not need additional network connections.

On the other hand if you did want to connect all your receivers to the your network/Internet, with DECA you only need to have one satellite cable somewhere near one free Ethernet port to make the connection; no need to rewire the entire house. It could also probably be done with a wireless adapter to bridge between the two.

And.....connecting the DECA cloud to your router is part of the installation at no added cost. The installer will run the coax to your router and hook you up. There are a number of features in addition to On Demand, namely Media Share and Directv2PC that are really neat and a lot of folks enjoy those. They require a connection to your local network.

Hooking up the DECA to the home network is part of the Whole Home install? (I did pay extra for that.) My installer did NOT do that. He didn't go near my office. Plus my DVR's aren't talking to eachother HOURS from install.

Does a separate coax need to be run to hook up to my router? I have a HD-DVR receiver right next to my router in my office but there is only one coax to that receiver. Will they have to run a separate coax to plug into the router with the adapter or can they split the signal?
They are doing my install tomorrow and want to be prepared.
Thanks for your help.

No, they will install a 2 way splitter in the signal coax to that receiver, connect a DECA module with a power supply and that module will have a spot to connect the Ethernet cable to the router. That will be in addition to the DECA module that services the HD receiver. The router connection can be placed anywhere in the coax string. A brochure at the link shows the "inet" connection on page 4.

oncampus2k,
Yes, the Internet connection "should be" included as part of the $149 DECA/SWiM installation, but I think most installers are probably "swamped" with DECA installs right now and "expect" the customer to "ask for the Internet connection". I wouldn't think it would cost them more than an additional 5-10 minutes to install & test but some of them just want to get on to the next install. I would call DirecTV and insist your DECA install is not compete(or satisfactory) and make them re-send a service tech to correct it. After all, one of the "selling points" for the DECA installation is that "it is officially supported by DirecTV".
