Loose reception in afternoon
I don't get some of the channels due to "searching for signal". I can live with that, since there are still several options to watch. Lately however, I find channels are mostly available in the early morning or late evening. Later morning to early evening I am only able to get 3 or 4 channels...mostly local. I have trimmed the trees that may have interfered with reception, but it doesn't seem to matter. The dish is mounted high on the edge of a roof that I am not able to access. Could the actual satellite vary in position enough to cause a loss of signal part of the day? Or, could the weather have caused the dish to move just enough out of alignment? This is mostly on the HD receiver. Our second receiver is not HD, and most channels come in most of the day. (Same dish for getting the signal) I have reset the receiver several times. If I push it in the afternoon...it just sits there trying to connect until later in the evening.

Its most likely an antenna alignment problem, and if you can't access the antenna, then you'll need a service call to resolve. Antenna alignment is more critical for HD reception than SD. If you believe that there are trees close to the signal path, then its also possible that you didn't cut high enough. The signal actually comes in at a higher angle than the face of the antenna would lead you to believe.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.
Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):
