move dish 3 degrees

After a rainstorm i lost the satellite signal (message on the screen is "Please standby searching for satellite signal" ) The dish did not move but the plastic bulb on the end of the satellite arm was cracked and had water in it.   My round 18" dish is old and the bolts are rusting so I used a second RCA Directv dish and replaced the old one.  The coax connections looked brand new so I re-used them but everything else is new on the dish.  I marked the location of the dish and confirmed the elevation and azimuth for 60487 zip code as 40 elev; 202 azi. but I still get the same message on the "dish pointing" menu choice of "move dish 3 degrees".  Is this really a dish pointing issue?

That message is meaningless,  The receiver has no way of knowing why its searching for satellite signal.  That being said, it very well could be an antenna pointing issue.  The azimuth and elevation settings are just a starting point.  You can fine tune using the receiver's signal meter and 2 people with cell phones.  Start by setting the azimuth to the left of the setting and moving the arm slowly to the right.  Once you've got the best you can get, adjust elevation in a similar manner.
