Moving a jack to other side of room
I have a HDDVR in my rec room. I recently bought a new TV and need to install a new jack on the other side of the room where the tv will be going. I installed the actual hardware in the wall just fine but I am confused as to which cable I need to run to the jack. I have a eight way splitter with cable running out to every tv in my house. I figured it would be easy, just unplug each one until that tv went out and thats the one I would run. When I tried this I found the one that made it go out but it also took out 2 other tv's in the house with it.
Does the fact that it is a dvr make any difference. How can 3 tv's be on the same cable?
Thanks in advance for your help

How many total DTV receivers do you have in the house? How many are DVRs? When you say "splitter", does it have 1 "in" port and 8 "out" ports, or 4 "in"s and 8 "out"s. If it is the former, do you know if your power inserter (little black box w/ a green light that plugs into the wall and cabling)?
It is possible that the cable has been split again after it leaves the 8-way splitter.

It is possible that the cable has been split again after it leaves the 8-way splitter.
It appears that way on the surface. Note that splitting beyond eight ports is prohibited by the Technical Bulletin 7.20.10. Two splitters may be used, but both must be less than eight way.
I'd call and request a tech return and correct this issue. You may have to pay a service call to connect the now TV location.

If what you have is really a splitter with one input and 8 outputs (instead of a multiswitch with 4 inputs and 8 outputs), then you should note that one of the output ports of the splitter is color coded red, which means that a power supply is connected to the coax cable going to that port. If you disconnect the coax going to the red port, then you will disconnect that power supply and all of your receivers will be disabled.

Is the power supply a big box that is behind the tv or something coming from the dish? I do have a box laying on the floor behind that particular tv.

The power inserter is a black box with a green light on top, and it usually plugs in behind one of the TVs. The box laying on the floor behind that particular TV, if it matches that description, is the PI. If it is, it makes your task a little easier.
From the 8-way splitter, follow the line from the power passing port (it will have a red line drawn to it from the port at the top of the splitter where the dish cable comes from). If you are looking straight at the splitter with the "In From SWM" (dish) port at the top, the PP port will be on the upper left.
Follow this cable through the attic to where it goes down a wall. This is your line you need to relocate. If you see a splitter inline between the 8-way and the wall drop, simply follow the cable on the PP side of that splitter. Either pull the cable up the wall and fish it down the new wall location, or fish a new cable up thru the wall and connect it to the splitter where the old one was located. Don't forget to reconnect your PI.
