MRV breaks when network connected
I recently had DirecTV switch me to a SWM/Deca system.
I have two DVRs (one is an HR24, so no external DECA). MRV works fine if I manually enter an IP address for each unit, and do NOT have my network connected to the DECA uplink.
As soon as I connect to the network, MRV breaks. I can see playlists, but am unable to view items on a remote playlist. I see regular disconnect messages.
Ironically, OnDemand seems to work when I am connected to the network.
Before I call DirecTV, I wanted to get some feedback. My installer seemed to know what gear was needed, but didn't have much network experience.
A few questions:
-Could I be looking at a defective DECA unit?
-Is the DECA unit that connects my system to the internet doing it's own NAT / DHCP, or is it still up to my router to provide IP addresses?
-does the DECA unit that uplinks to the network need to connect to a cable that runs DIRECTLY back to the SWM switch, or can it be connected vi splitter from any cable?
Any troubleshooting techniques or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I am going to try a suggestion that I just read in another response (from user peds48, I believe).
Will let you know if this has any affect on my MRV issues.
the best thing to do in this case is to perform a wole system shutdown. unplug your receivers by pulling the power cords, unplug the SWIM power inserter, unplug the internet DECA. wait a few minutes, the power on in the following manner:
1. plug in the SWIM power inserter
2. plug in the DECA internet
3. plug in the one of the HDDVR (wait for the DVR to come completly on, making sure the DECA ethernet short jumper is plug in)
4. do the same for DVR # 2

No luck. System reset did not solve issues.

Your system should consist of two DECA modules, one connected to the signal coax through to the sat input of the non 24 DVR with a short Ethernet jumper connected to the top port of the DVR. The HR24 should connect to the signal coax only. The second DECA module should connect to the signal coax (at any location) and have an independent 18 volt power supply, and a Ethernet jumper connected to the router. If your router is set for DHCP auto configuration there should never be a need to enter any IP addresses manually. Lastly, there will be a 21v SWM power inserter.
If you have attempted to connect a Cat5 Ethernet cable to the port on either DVR be advised that will not work and will disable the Whole Home DVR system. We've seen a couple of cases where the DECA module was connected properly to the router but lacked a power supply.
Note that when you do the power off reset as described above, it's essential that the DECA module connected to your router be connected first.

I actually powered on the power inserter unit first, then the DECA that handles the network uplink.
I certainly hope that doesn't make a difference.

Nope, that should be okay. The DECA system sets up the DEV's and receivers to network to each other to carry the programming signal between boxes for the Whole Home system. If, when powered on, the receivers "see" a live DHCP Internet/Network connection, they will configure to that as well. I'm not sure what effect your manually entering IP settings might have.
Just as an example, I've had my DVR's networked to my home network since the first HD DVR's were available. Media Share was enabled shortly thereafter. I now have three DVR's connected to Whole Home and my LAN and in all those years have never a single time had to enter advanced network setup or enter any IP manually.
I'd call Directv and tell them my system wasn't working and have them return and put it right. Make sure you fully test both Whole Home and the router connection before the tech leaves. You can easily check if the Internet is active on one of the DVR's by going to info and test under the system setup menu and selecting more system info. Scroll down to network. It will likely say network connected in any event, but if it says Internet connected, you're good to go.
