MRV Installed today by DirecTV Tech and working perfectly

Installed 3 DECAs on two DVRs and one receiver. Works perfectly. Install and setup took maybe 30 mins. MRV kicks!

Presumably the OP lives in one of the four cities participating in the pilot program (Columbia-Jefferson City, Missouri; Denver, Colorado; Fresno-Visalia, California; Portland, Oregon). The cost of the upgrade, where available is $150 or less.

Yes, I live in the Portland market, Vancouver WA actually. All I did was call. Cost was $99.99 for the equipment and $49.99 for the tech to install. $149.98. Monthly will be $3 once out of beta. Install was super-simple...Even a caveman could do it! 😉

Thanks for the update, fj.

Note to others finding this thread ....
fj's install was "super simple" because he already had the SWM dish. Many MRV/DECA upgrades will require a new SWM dish or SWM multiswitch as part of the installation. But DirecTV won't charge any extra for that.

fj, Did the installer connect your DVR/receiver network to your router?

No. I was already networked.

As a sidenote: I did try hooking up MRV without DECA: Big swing and miss. Never had any success.

One mentionable here is that when accessing programs from a remote reveiver/DVR the is a bit of a delay for startup and jumping through commecials. It's a but sluggish, but the benefits far outweigh the slight delays. I expect that will be improved within the firmware. Adding remote access to a DVR's total programming, to-do-list, etc. would be nice. I also anticipate that added with firmware upgrades.

dcd: Just to clarify, my complete setup has one DVR connected to the Internet via a wireless access point with the others receiving their Internet through the DECA setup from that DVR.

The tech suggested that in the future I might consider moving one of my DVR's to the room where the main router is for a direct connect. That has no affect on MRV though. It would obviously improve download speeds for TVApps and On-Demand. Which, BTW, I have yet to get TVApps to work.

I like this one.
Logical... a thinker. And someone with patience along with aspirations. A rarity.

We've all had to learn to slow down a bit while pressing remote buttons, just with the hardware/software. Now add in MRV, those commands going through the network to another receiver, and back, etc... sure a little delay.
I too hope that's something that can be made better with future s/w updates.

I like the idea of having access to each of the networked HDDVR's to-do list also. Not just the playlist, to play it back. But if I'm sick and in bed in master bedroom... HD IRD, it would be pretty convenient to be able to clear up to-do list, prioritizer settings, etc. It would definitely take some work for that though. Some way to differentiate which box you're dealing with, so you don't have trouble separating recording conflicts.
Try recording 3 shows at a time from one HD-DVR and you get a pretty simple (now, used to be worse) conflict resolution screen. Imagine that when your scheduling for multiple receivers. >.<

But... if it could be done, I wouldn't see much trouble back-streaming it finally. Since all these receivers will be connected to the internet (most, if not everyone's DVR network will likely be connecting to their home internet, too) we should be able to store, backup, even manage To-Do List from the website.

Thanks for the compliments crashin'. I think we're sittin' on the tip of a cool iceberg here and it's neat to be part of it from the beginning. I was going to try the alpha rollout, but decided to wait until it was further along.

In these days of everything-faster one does have to put on the patience hat sometimes and just relax. I couldn't be happier with MRV, but I do know we will be reading complaints about the delay when it fully rolls out.

Also as an FYI, I get a much more comprehensive programming selection when using my HD receiver as opposed to one of the DVRs. When selecting a show to record from the receiver I can select which receiver. Can't see the to-do, but it's obvious that those capabilities can easily be added with firmware upgrades.
