MRV on two HR24s
I had a new install on Monday and the installer said the system was set up for MRV if I wanted to activate it. I decided to do so today, but it's not working. I have two HR24s that are installed with a SWM switch. I'm running an Ethernet cable from my router to box #1 and have been able to access On Demand. Box #2 has no Ethernet connection. Both boxes say that they are activated for MRV, but both say that there are no networked DVRs found. Am I missing something in this install or something in the setup? My understanding is that the HR24s have DECA built in and should just work, but I've also been reading something about needing an adapter for MRV and On Demand to work together. Any help is appreciated.

When you plug the Ethernet cable into the HR24 you disable the internal DECA. If you want to connect the DECA network to your router for OnDemand etc. you need a separate DECA module to go between the satellite cable and your router. Since it won't be connected to a receiver for power, the extra DECA module also needs its own power supply.

I just got a new H24 today (not a DVR) and I have a H23 DRV and another H23 HD receiver. I have Whole Home DVR working using my existing home network ( I opted into the Beta last week, and just this evening subscribed to the $3.00 per month service) that is wired with CAT5 cable and it works great. I did not have to get DECA and I did use an ethernet cable in the new H24 and everything is working fine for me.

That's correct... if you're using your own network (not recommended) and not using DECA, then disabling DECA in an H24 or HR24 by plugging in an Ethernet cable has no effect. The OP however is trying to use DECA to connect the receivers, which won't work with the Ethernet cable plugged in.

pptarmigan, You need to call Directv and have them ship you a DECA BB unit and a DECA power supply. That unit will connect to the coax at the DVR #1 and will provide a Ethernet connection for the Cat5 cable running to your router. This will enable you to not use the Ethernet port on the HR24 and will allow the DECA system and MRV to work between your DVR's.
Edit add: You will also need a SWM 2 way splitter and two short coax jumpers in order to provide a coax connection to the BB unit. The connection would be thus: Remove the coax from the HR24 -> attach splitter to coax -> connect jumper to splitter and to HR24 -> attach jumper to splitter and BB unit -> attach power supply to BB unit -> attach Cat 5 cable to BB unit. Pull power supply from HR24 and reconnect to reset SWM connection to DVR.

Thanks. dcd - Do I still need the 2-way splitter if I already have an 8-way splitter installed next to the box? Right now, the satellite in is going to an 8-way SWM splitter. The first outputs of the splitter is going through the SMW power inverter and to box #1. The second output is going to box #2. Could I just add a BB unit to the 8-way splitter?

Yes, you'd simply connect the BB unit to an unused output on the 8-way. You wouldn't need the splitter I mentioned.

Thanks. I unplugged the Ethernet cable this morning and restarted the box and the multi room showed up, so it's hooked up correctly. I called the installer that did the install earlier in the week and he knew exactly what I needed. He's going to swing by sometime in the next few days to give me the BB unit. Thanks again for the help.

You may need to call Directv and have them activate the service. If look in the setup menu, if it says "beta" then you need to call. It cost you $3 per month.

I activated it online and it's working now. I have MRV, but no Internet connection until the installer comes out with the BB unit. Thanks much for the help, the setup is a bit more complicated than I initially thought, but it's clear now.

There's more. Besides MRV and On Demand, there is Directv2PC and Media Share. Both of those are great programs. When you get networked, visit those forums and get acquainted.
