MRV only works in 2 of 3 rooms

I had no problems with MRV between room 1 with an HR 21 DVR and room 2 with the same model receiver. Receiver in room 2 failed and was replaced with an HR 23 DVR. At the same time, I added an HR 23 DVR to room 3. The receiver in room 3 gives me error message 206, unable to start network services, and room 1 is now "out of the loop". By that I mean receiver 2 and 3 can see each other and share playlists, but room 1 is nowhere to be found. When I check status, room 1 doesn't show up, but each of the HR 23 receivers indicates the other is networked. I've gone through all of the setup again. All receivers are connected by cat5. Is there a conflict between the HR21 and HR23 receivers? How can I get all 3 to play well together?

You say "all receivers are connected by cat5". What are they connected to? Single router? Something else?

The easiest thing is to await the DECA release. But you probably don't want to do that. I'd say you have a networking issue and it isn't actually MRV but your connection to your router. You should be able to download a program to each DVR via On Demand. You can open your guide, tune to channel 1101, select music and download a concert to each box. You can cancel each one once 5% or so is downloaded, the purpose here is to determine if you are successfully connected to the Internet. Then, go to your computer and look in network places. All three DVR's should show. If not, all three are not networked.

All 3 receivers are connected to a linksys router. Each was able to download a concert, but none of them appeared in my network places. I don't know what that means.

Note that a full network connection to your computer is not required for MRV. The signal will actually go as far as the router then back to another DVR. However, the purpose of doing the computer network connection is to assure that the signal has a clear path. Depending on your Windows version, sharing is accomplished in a variety of ways. In Vista you go to computer -> network and sharing center -> put a mark in each category except password (printer optional). Then, temporarily disable the firewall and with the computer running, do a red button (inside card door) reset of one of the DVR's. If that DVR shows up in your network places, do the same for the other two.

Unfortunately I have Windows XP Professional. Are you able to tell me how to adjust the settings in that OS?

Sure. Open Windows Media Player 11 -> Tools -> Options -> Library -> configure sharing -> Share my media to -> a Directv mediashare renderer icon should show in the box, if so allow it and it should have a green check mark. If everything is properly networked, there will be one icon for each networked Directv receiver/DVR.

You'll probably need to visit Microsoft's web site and upgrade to the latest version of Media Player. The version that comes with XP does not support networked audio/video sharing.

Good point. I had thought that one of the service packs put in WMP11 automatically and I guess it was a optional upgrade. Anyway, here's the link.

I had problems downloading WMP11, so out of desperation I unplugged the HR21 receiver that wasn't being seen by the other two receivers. I waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in, and everything worked. Thanks for your help and insight. All is well now.
