MRV/WHDVR setup question
Installing my setup this weekend with the help of a local installer. I have a quick question. Before that, here's what will be used (all on hand at my house):
2 - HR24
4 - H24
3LNB SWiM (built into LNB) SlimLine Dish
21V SWiM power inserter
DECA and power supply (for internet connection)
1x8 SWM splitter (DirecTV brand)
(All will be connected for MRV/WHDVR)
So I will have 1 input conenction from the SWiM dish to the 1x8, six output connections to the recievers from the 1x8 splitter, 1 connection from the Power inserter (SWiM power), and 1 connetion from the BB/DECA. Got that. But there is one conenction on the 1x8 that is RED. Is that the one I plug the Power Inserter into?? I'm not doing it inline - in other words, the power inserter will have it's own connection to the 1x8 SWM splitter with nothing plugged into the IRD port. All connections will be in the basement at the low voltage box. This includes the connection for the BB/DECA to the 1x8 splitter and cat5 to the router.
Thanks again for the help! (sorry - didn't know if this goes in Whole-home or installation since it kind of relates to both)

If the PI is downstream from the splitter as yours will be, then it must connect to the red, Power Passing port. I believe the PI will also need a 75 ohm terminator on the unused ODU (receiver) port.

Perfect - Thanks! You create another question. Is it better to put the PI between the SWiM and 1x8 splitter because I definitely have that option too. Just didn't know which one is better.

Since the PI will be near the splitter anyway, I'd say do it as you planned. Moving it to the other side of the splitter just adds a couple more unnecessary connections to the signal path.

Just so Sungam's instructions are perfectly clear (if connected wrong it won't work). The signal from the dish goes to the center port on the 8 way splitter. The connection from the splitter's red port goes to the red "power to SWM port of the power inserter. The signal to IRD port on the PI gets terminated.

Yes, pardon the confusion over IRD and ODU... it is the IRD port that needs termination and the ODU port connects to the splitter red port.
The splitter should come with terminators which you won't need since all 8 ports will be in use, so you shouldn't have to worry about getting a terminator for the PI.
