My Whole Home DVR successful installation, but now no internet connection

To make a long story short, I had my installation done this morning, and while the multi-room dvr service works (although the controls are disappointingly sluggish), only one of my 2 DVRs is left with an Internet connection. I have 2 HD-DVRs HR21-700s. The one in the living room works 100%, but the one in the bedroom fails the Internet connection test. It IS connected to my home network, if it wasn't, the multi-room DVR wouldn't work, but it is NOT connected to the Internet so I can't take advantage of the On-Demand service from that TV. I am also wondering if software updates are downloaded from the Internet or downloaded via the satellite. Anybody? Before today, I had both receivers connected to my network via a wireless gaming adapter. They both worked fine. When I discovered the problem, and the tech couldn't fix it (he was a nice guy, and seemingly knowledgeable, but it was his first installation of this service), he tried to blame the receiver. I then unplugged the DECA, and plugged the wireless adapter back in, and had an Internet connection immediately, so it is not the receiver, or Ethernet outlet. A wireless connection would be fine except, of course, that the multi-room DVR won't really run on the wireless connection. I tried having both the DECA and the wireless adapter connected at the same time, but it didn't like that. He spoke to his supervisor a couple of times, and the best he can come up with is that he is supposed to use what he kept calling a "broadband", but they didn't have any in stock. He seemed to be saying that it would replace the DECA box that is physically connected to my router. I seem to have 3 DECA boxes. One on each receiver, and one in the room with the router. Anybody know what he could mean by a "broadband"? Did he just use the wrong piece of equipment to connect the coax to my router? He told me he would note my account, and they would call me when the equipment was in stock, but he had no idea when that would be. My guess is I never hear from them unless I initiate communication. I know if I call Directv they will be no help. Anybody have any information? Should I just wait a while, and see what happens? As of now, there are no real problems since I can still download in the living room and watch in the bedroom, but it is an inconvenience. It would be nice if everything worked correctly for the prices we pay. Thanks in advance for any comments.

A standard DECA adapter will work connected to the router, but it must be powered by a 18 volt power supply. (a 21 volt will do as a substitute) The proper thing to use is a Broadband adapter, but the DECA will work.  Do you have the power supply?  See page 4 of the link for the correct installation arrangement.  The BB adapters are not in ready supply yet.

I was just reading another post that addressed this.  The receiver that DOES have a connection DOES have a power supply, but the receiver that doesn't have a connection does not.  The installer assured me that it wasn't necessary on both receivers.

Only the DECA connected you your router requires a power supply.  None of the DECA modules connected to receivers/DVRs require poiwer.  The HR20-100 does require a band stop filter however.

I just had it installed. The installed got it to work, but I think he had to disable the connection to my router.

My setup is a new HD-DVR in my living room (Multiroom name is LIVING ROOM)

There is a HD reciever called BEDROOM. The installed had it working when he left. But he plugged into an outlet that the swtich turns off. Later I powered it back on and lost the multi room.

Then I 'reset the downstairs LIVING ROOM and it did find it. It could talk to the HD-DVR.  (via coax?)

But I wanted to download some Free On-Demand and tried and noticed the ethernet was unplugged. I think after I plugged it in and got my router IP and connected to the internet, it lost connection to the upstairs reciever.

So it looks like I can't have BOTH internet On Demand Downloads AND multi-room at the same time?

I will try to 'reset' the downstairs again and get the multi-room working again, but it's dissapointing that it can't work when it's connected to the internet.

Does this make sense? Does anyone know how I can get my multiroom working again???

Thanks in advance.

I am having a somewhat similar problem that I described in the original post.  Just spent a long while with an EXTREMELY helpful tech support guy, and while he was confident at the beginning of the call that he would be able to fix it, by the end, he was stumped.  They are supposed to call me back to set up a service call, but his best guess right now is that the DECA box is fried, or the coax itself is no good.

The installer did not leave a DECA box, he said I didn't need one because my boxes were new (2 weeks on the market)

the HD-DVR is 24 model?  Do I need a DECA box?  He only installed a black box that has 2 coax coming out and it's powered.

I don't know the answer to your question for sure, but I believe you do need DECA boxes.  Everything I have read seems to suggest that.  The black box you are referring to is an SWM box.   I originally though that was what was causing my problems because there is one connected to the receiver that is fully functional, and there is not one connected to the receiver that isn't working correctly, but he assures me that is not the case.  He also told me that the only DECA box that needed a power supply is the one directly connected to the router.

 mrecint,

This pdf explains how to correctly setup your HR24: http://hr20.dbstalk.com/docs/24%20Series%20First%20Look.pdf

The installer did not connect anything to my router.  My ATT DSL router has the ethernet going straightto the ethernet in the HR24 ethernet.  Is this not correct?  When I get an IP from that, it seems to knock out MRV.  Do I need to ask an installer to come back?

Yes, I would do that, but you can also search the forum for information on the HR24, you should find something regarding your ethernet problem. I personally don't know that much about them, I guess the pdf was not helpful?

Had three HD DVRS and two HD receivers installed today. Tech got all speaking together. However, when he plugged in the internet kit to the router, I lost internet connection on my PCs and really caused havoc with the receivers. I later disconnected from the router and everything is working okay. Video on Demand still works, make sure that you disconnect your bridge connections.

How do you have VOD if you are not connected to your router/the internet?  What do you mean by disconnect bridge connections?

bshears, are you talking about VOD pay per view or the On Demand that you can download to your reciever, like Showtime On Demand shows...etc?

Yes, please clarify how you disconnect bridge connections?  Is this on the router or PC?

Just got off the phone with Tech support told them that I disconnected the internet kit from the router and all works well. He was actually stumped as well. If I am brave I plan on connecting the internet kit back into the router and see what happens. It took me six hours to figure out that I need to unplug from the router.

What do you mean by internet kit exactly?  Please explain your setup.  Thanks.
