Need a remote control for direct tv at a group nursing home
My Husband is in a group nursing home that provides direct t.v. He cannot operate the remote for the tv and needs one that is very simple and with as few control buttons for it as possible.

Not sure if any remote will control an MDU provided DTV receiver other then the one provided.

@shannon02 in theory the remote is universal so it shouldn't have an issue with being programmed for the commercial receiver, however the software those receivers run completely locks down 'Remote' control and everything else. Therefore, I would have to partially agree with you.
However, I have worked with commercial receivers for awhile and I know how to get to the Remote Setup and program a new remote. It requires the resetting of the receiver via the red reset button and pressing/holding the actual 'Red' button on the current DIRECTV remote while the receiver is acquiring satellite info part 2 of 2. This will bring the Menu up to manually program a remote. If this process is not performed, the OP will be completely locked out of the settings as-intended by the hotel as to not mess up or alter any settings.

Thank you for your input. Now, if I can find someone locally to do this, it sounds like it would work for my Husband. I'm not technically inclined at all and would only screw things up if I tried reprogramming.

You may to ask others in the facility if they have done something similar.
