New 4K TV looks terrible with Direct TV

I don't know what the deal is.   I've gone backwards, with a picture that looks more like SD than HD, let alone UHD

Of course, I get that few channels are UHD.   

It this just a case of the TV  (an LG C1 65", top rated) interpolating up the HD DTV signal to UHD?

I keep reading about Genie this and box that.

They sent me a new box, made in 2021, but it looks identical to the old one.

Otherwise, I yet to get any real, credible help from the DTV tech team.


I'm thinking of bailing to YT or Hulu Plus or something.

Any help appreciated.

@geary126 first off, just to confirm, are you indeed using HDMI? Also, what is the receiver model of your current DIRECTV receiver?

Have you tried a red button reset of the receiver? This will be on the front where it says "PRESS" or the right side by the access card for the HR54 series.

Also, try toggling the "FORMAT" button on the remote control to toggle through the different resolutions. Once at 1080i (Original format) stop pressing "FORMAT"

If your receiver is set to 1080i already, then this would lead more toward a TV issue.

Thanks for the note.

Yes, to HDMI.   I have tried using the supplied HDMI, and also another one i had (8k capable).

C41W is the model number.

I have done the red reset multiple times.

I will check on the format button.

I’ve had a few chat sessions with DTV people and really haven’t gotten any real help. 

if there is someone who can really help, Like a supervisor who rocks, I would be fine with that, but I’m not getting straight answers from DTV


which is why I am asking for strangers to help here

@geary126 the C41W is a wireless Genie client that gets all of its information from the main Genie HD DVR receiver. I recommend resetting that with the red button reset as well.

Afterwards, if the issue persists, you should try a different HDMI port on that specific television to narrow down possible solutions. To be honest, you can even try a different HDMI cable from a known-good working receiver with TV. If still not fixed, try to mess with some of the HDMI settings for the actual television to see if something is turned ON to optimize quality or something like that.

On the left is directtv.com link;  on the right is G in a yellow circle, which is my account.

The C41W can't output 4K only the wired C61K can output 4K and to make sure you need an HR54 Genie or HS17 Genie2 to get the 4K channels.

I was asked to do direct messaging about two hours ago.

Since then, I've had three people ask me ~5 questions, 15 minutes apart.

"What kind of programming are you trying to watch?"

How about telling me to go to CNN HD, or Golf Channel, because you KNOW that to be a known quantity.

It's beyond lame.  

HOW ABOUT SOME REAL SUPPORT.

Just rereading your post.  Do you suggest I reboot the main HD receiver as well?

Is there an order of operation (main vs. C41W), in terms of resetting them?
