New Cable Run Questions

I have three receivers, two HD DVR's and one HD Receiver and an AM 21 for OTA reception. I want to add an additional HD DVR to my Living room, but I don't have any cables going to the living room. How many cables are needed to connect a new HD DVR receiver in my Living Room? Also would I be better off financially doing the Whole House Cinema option? I was told I would need to get a new HD Receiver, but I could keep my existing HD DVR receivers.

look a they other HDDVR's.  DO they have two cables or one?  you would need the same amount of cables as the other HDDVR's.  Two cables means that you have the "legacy" system, one cable means that you have the newer SWM system which only requires one cable to feed DVR's and receivers,

you need to call DirecTV and get a quote on the WHDVR option.  only you can decide if its better financially.

DirecTV will upgrade all of your equipment for SWM if you order the WHDVR Upgrade.

Another way to check if you already have a SWM setup is to press the remote's "Dash (-)" button .... does it echo "SWM connected ..."?

I have a BDS-S4 in my garage where the cables come into the house, but I don't know whether this is for my Comcast connections or my Directv connections. I have Comcast cable running to my kids rooms and Directv running to the other rooms. When I press - key on my remote, I get Receiver: 123456 Internet: Never Connected. The Reciever number above is used as an example, the actual numbers are different.

That means you don't have SWM.  DirecTV will include that upgrade as part of the Whole Home DVR upgrade.  Call them.

That BDS-S4 must be part of your Comcast cable modem.

since you don't have a SWM system, you would need to cables to the new HDDVR and and a pair of BBC's if the HDDVR is anything except an HR23

If you do not get a Whole Home system, then you already have 5 tuners and want to add two more, thus you'll need a Zinwell WB68 multiswitch.  You should currently have one but may be running one of the DVR's with a single tuner setup.  The Zinwell takes the 4 feeds from the conventional dish and provides eight outputs.  On the other hand, the Whole Home uses a SWM dish which already has an eight tuner capability.
