New guide interface very slow
With the new guide it takes five "clicks" to get to the list of recorded shows instead of two. But more importantly, there is a four second lag time FOR EACH of the following steps...when I hit guide, when i hit all channels or any channel category, when i select a show (4 seconds per "click"). Furthermore, it also lags four seconds on every step when i hit guide, when I hit playlist, when i click the recorded show to select it. Then when i choose play to start although the show begins playing immediately in the tiny preview window in the upper left corner of the screen, there is another four second delay before the guide disappears and the show fills the screen plus another four seconds until the menu bar at the top goes away. If i try to hit exit hoping it will go away immediately, again, four second delay. So whereas prior to the new modernized looking guide interface i could navigate and start watching a show in three clicks and three seconds now it could take 20-30 seconds just waiting for all of the combined actions to fully execute. And if I accidentally click on the wrong show then i have to start the same long drawn out frustrating process all over again. Plus, if I try to hit/go back a screen, it's four seconds for each screen I try to back up to. At first I tried fresh batteries thinking it was the remote but it's the new menus. With the old menus it responded immediately rather than having to wait on every single action. I saw another post asking the person to wait 24 hours for programming updates but it's been over 36 hours for me so if that were the problem it would have resolved itself by now. I can appreciate the efforts to modernize the appearance of the menu but not at the cost of sacrificing service/performance. I would rather go back to the old menu and have the instant response times. I have an Hr24-100.

did you know that you can press the "LIST" button on the remote to take you straight to the playlist with only one click?
Clear NVRAM to speed up DVR performance:
Go to channel 1. Once the page is operating including audio, use the remote and press Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Yellow, Green in exactly that order. This must be done quickly. Otherwise the yellow press will bring up a quick options menu. That will display a message about the NVRAM being cleared in the lower left. Turn "Scrolling Effects" to off. This is in the Display-->Preferences menu. Uncheck all of the resolutions under HDTV in the TV Resolutions menu except 720p or 1080i and 1080p, depending on whether you have a 720/768 or 1080 TV or turn Native off.

Is there an new guide out for Directv?
there is a new HD GUI rolling out to all HD and HDDVR's receivers. you will get it when your receiver are authorized by DirecTV to receive the new guide.
Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page. Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's. With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far. And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.

Received 0x057B firmware 6 Dec. Followed recommendations by peds48_installs on my HR24-500. It's taking 10-12 seconds for the list to appear, (2 seconds before the update) and a full minute to resort the playlist. (10 seconds before the update) Have restarted the receiver. No change.

Update 1909 CST 12 Dec 2011
Doing some further troubleshooting this evening, I did another reset, simultaneously disabling my 2TB eSATA external drive. Once reset was complete, accessing the internal drive, all issues were resolved. I then did another reset with external drive reactivated. Issues returned. It would appear there is an issue with this newest update and the eSATA port? Perhaps others with external drives experiencing this issue could perform this procedure and comment.

Try booting your DVR to the external drive them give it a day or two then test the speed issue. The new GUI downloads a considerable amount of data in the background and it's been shown that the system will be slow until that download is complete.
