New Home - Need Installation Advice
I'm currently in the framing stage of building new home. My idea for TV installation right now is to have 2 HD DVR, with 2 other HD receivers to work in conjunction with the Whole Home DVR service...with the idea of upgrading to 2 additional TV's in the future, for a total of 6. For cabling needs, I would like to have the incoming satellite cable come into my media closet, and then from the closet go out to the tv's. I'm worried that run is too far. The satellite will need to put on one side of the house, and my media closet is on the opposite diagonal side, approx 80-85 ft away. So on some runs, I would be going from satellite to media closet (85 ft) then out to tv's that are back close to 85 ft away from the media closet? Will this run be too far? What is the max length of cable I can have between satellite and multi-switch, and then what is maximum from that multi-switch to my tv's?

If you use solid copper core RG6 (not copper coated steel) your distances will be okay. Note that the coax from the roof to the closet should enter the residence adjacent to the service ground to facilitate installation of a grounding block. Also note that you'll want an additional coax run from the closet to the vicinity of your router to provide Internet connection for your system. There will be no multiswitch, just an 8 way splitter in the closet. You'll want AC power available in the closet as well. Here is a schematic of a typical installation.
