What model DirecTV box do you have?

If it doesn't have an HDMI output, then it's about to be obsolete and should be swapped for a newer HD model. DirecTV is dropping support for older SD boxes over the next year. Call them to request their free SWAP: 1 800 531 5000

In the meantime, doublecheck that your TV has only an HDMI input. Most all modern TVs still have a Composite (yellow RCA) video input. What is your TV's model number and we can look it up for you. Otherwise you'll need a converter to convert your DirecTV box output to HDMI. You'll find a wide variety on Amazon.

I highly doubt that the tv ONLY has HDMI inputs. Check the sides, back and even underneath the front panel. Sometimes inputs are in the back behind a small removable panel

My direct tv box has no hdmi out to the tv...RCA WIRES GO straight to the receiver....it has the rca wires witch work for pic and basic sound...no surround sound and no receiver connection to tv.  TIME TO CHANGE?

Yes if all you have are SD receivers as they are now obsolete when DTV finishes their shut down of the MPEG2 channels.  AFAIK there are 4 MPEG4 channels on the 101 sat at this time.
