No picture, but menu shows
Watching a recorded show through genie, tv goes dark, genie and tv still on. The Genie menu, etc comes up on the screen, but if I select a recorded program to watch, it's just black as is "live" tv. Happened once before and that's when we switched to the genie although the tech who came out said the dvr we were using was still good. Any suggestions for troubleshooting. I replaced the hdmi cable and the dvr recognizes the tv, but still no pic.

It's got nothing to do with your HDMI cable. It's an issue that sometimes happens with DirecTV DVRs. Resetting it should help.

Much like everything, when in doubt, reboot. That fixed it.

btw, genie appears to be recording fine, I can watch recorded shows from a different room. Also, tv is samsung 4d, less than a yr old.

What Genie DVR model number? Have you tried resetting using the red button near the access card?

Genie Gen 3, Model HR54-700 and I did not reset because it was recording and it seems to be working find from other room. Can't figure out why the hdmi cable (or any wiring) would be fine to get the menu to the tv, but not the actual programming.

resetting now. If that is the issue, why would it only affect one tv and not the whole home?

The HR54 streams the programs to the minis, but has to use other software/circuits to send it to the TV.
