no wifi in my house. genie is hardwired to internet. Want to couple gemini box to genie, but how, if genie ethernet port is being used?
I do not have wifi in my house. My genie is hardwired to internet, using the ethernet port on the genie. I do not have a smart TV and Directv told me I could add a gemini box to my genie system to get streaming. Directv told me the gemini box would work, even though I do not have wifi in my house, so I ordered the gemini and am not trying to install it.
How do I couple the two boxes together if genie ethernet port is being used? (The installation instructions state to couple the boxes together using their two ethernet ports)
If this coupling is not possible, what alternatives do I have to go beyond the genie alone?

Depends, you may need a WVB(Wireless Video Bridge) to be connected with coax to the SWM splitter or run coax from the SWM splitter to the Gemini and then you will need a DECA BB to connect to it. If you have an HS17 Genie2 you can use the built in WVB

Thank you for your reply. WVB is still wireless, which we are trying to minimize in our house, due to EHS issues. Directv Tech Support rep told me yesterday that his counterpart in customer service who helped me order this device was not right in thinking it would work without wifi in the house. I do appreciate your work-around to the Directv wiring diagram for connecting gemini to genie. I wish only that it was a wired work-around. Thanks again!

If you Genie is hardwired to the internet... then it is connected by an ethernet cable to a router or other appliance that serves up the internet.
If that box only has one port, then you add ports with an Ethernet Switch. Then you hardware your Gemini to that switch.
So, I gather your "Genie" is actually a "Genie 2". Unfortunately it wants to get DTV video wirelessly. Using a WVB (Wireless Video Bridge) will be operating on standard Wi-Fi, in fact the 5GHz band.
I have not checked my streaming, i.e. if I run Netflix, does it come from the Internet directly to my Gemini, or does it come to the Genie 2 and then to the Gemini.
By the way, not sure you can turn the internal WiFi off in a Genie 2.
I'll sit back and see what the experts say about the questions I have posed.
Greg
p.s. you could put the Genie 2 and the Gemini close to each other in a metal box (cardboard wrapped in aluminum foil and contain the DTV WiFi there.

I have a Genie 1, not a Genie 2.

Thank you for your post. I can try hardwiring both devices into my network. That was one of the questions that I asked DIRECTV tech support, but I was told that without a wireless connection, the Gemini box will not function.

Coax to the Gemini from the SWM splitter is the DTV approved method to connect it, using a network switch while it works is not and DTV may not help if you need it.

Thank you for your post. Okay, so I understand you to be saying I can coax both devices using an SVM splitter. But then it seems I will also still need to hardwire both devices to my Internet connection via the ethernet ports in each as well?

No, the HR54 adds the internet to the coax to feed any DTV devices connect to the coax.

Thank you for explaining that "the HR54 adds the internet to the coax to feed any DTV devices connect to the coax." The Gemini they sent me is the C71KW-400. There is no coax port in that device. And the SVM splitter to which you refer splits the signal from the coax coming out of my wall into two (one into the HR55 and one into the new Gemini)?

That is why you have to get a DECA BB either the USB or A/C powered one to remove the internet from the coax to feed the Gimini and it appears you also need a 2way SWM splittter and yes the coax from the dish connects to the single top port on the SWM splitter, the HR54 is connected to the red power pass through port then the coax to the Genimi is connected to the only open port. They are available on line.
