Not all shows recording

I have an HR21/700 HD DVR and I've set it to record a show that is shown at multiple times on a channel. The series options are set to record both first run and re-run, however not all showings are being recorded.

For instance, today the show is on at 7pm and 7:30pm but only the 7:30pm show is flagged to be recorded. When I go to the menu, series manager, view upcoming, I see today's 7pm show without the record icon, the 7:30 showing has it. The 7pm showing tomorrow is not going to record but the 7:30 showing will, the 12pm showing on Sunday will record, but the 12:30pm showing will not. If I continue through the list, on weekdays the 7pm showing is never flagged to record but the 7:30 showing always has the record icon.

I've reset the box, deleted the series and re-selected it and gotten the same results. Does anyone know of a way to correct this?

I can't look at your guide for that channel.  You are aware that the DVR will not record the same episode twice no matter how you have the First Run or Repeats set?  Is it possible that the missing recordings are repeat episodes?

Yes, these are probably "duplicates", episodes that have been recorded in the last 30 days, which won't record again  (even if they have been deleted from the disk). If you want to record them you will have to set each episode manually

Thanks. They are probably duplicates. I didn't know that the receiver would not record them as it should record whatever I tell it to.

So how is it NBC Nightly News records every night when the description is the same each night? Do you know what it is that the receiver is keying on when deciding whether something is a repeat or not?

The guide has codes embedded in the program that tells the DVR all about it.  For the most part the DVR assumes that when you set up automatic series recordings that you want it to manage it for you and that includes not recording the same program over and over.  If you do want to record the same program, the series setup should not be used as there is no record duplicates setting.  Simply scroll through the guide and hit the red record button on each you want recorded and it will do exactly as you tell it.  To make it easy, open the guide to the appropriate channel, left arrow over the channel header and hit "info".  All the programs for the next several days will be listed and you can record any or all of the programs listed.
