Not Enough DVR Disk Space R20-700

What are DTV plans for increasing disk space on the HD-DVR? I have a R20-700 and I can only record about 25-30 hours of HD programming. It is reported to record 50 hours of HD but this is not correct and not enough. The limited disk space on the HD-DVR is unacceptable. I know I can add an extra SATA disk at my own expense, but to do so wipes out all programming on the internal disk. This too is unacceptable. DTV must either provide a DVR with vastly greater disk space or allow the customer to add extra drives WITHOUT losing access to the internal drive and stored programming. I am a loyal DTV customer for 10 years now, but the DVR disk space limitation is really testing my loyalty. Is there a new DVR coming or a software change to allow the user to add a SATA disk and still access programming on the internal disk?
