OLD EQUIPMENT

How or where do I go to see about updating my old equipment (receivers) to current product line.  Old HR-24's are giving us problems on a regular basis.

Are the HR24s your only equipment models?  What other equipment do you have?

What are the models of every box you have?

Which ones are having problems?

Depending, you might have a mix of warranty replacement and upgrade.

I have 3 hr24's, 1 HR21, AND 1 H22... at times each of them except the H22 experiences problems.. ie no sound, or loss of saved recordings.. then I have to reset them.. tried unplugging them, but keeps happening,,

As you just responded to your thread from 2 years ago, it seems you've done all the troubleshooting.

Call DirecTV. They may need to go through some troubleshooting still, as AT&T was very strict about following those scripts (couldn't even just verify what you've already done). Get warranty replacements on the boxes having issue. Supposedly they still have HR24s available for warranty replacements only (regardless of being 21, 22, or 24).

Assuming they can replace those boxes, then upgrade your HR22 to a Genie. This will get you a 5 tuner HDDVR with 1TB space. Do NOT get any Mini Genie Clients as they have no tuners or recording space of their own, just using what the Genie has. If you don't already have it, this upgrade adds $3 for Whole Home DVR allowing each TV to see the recordings from all boxes. Either way, upgrade adds a 24 month service agreement to the account. But if you only do warranty replacements then no new upgrade.

Remember, recordings do not transfer from any boxes you replace. So I would be comfortably caught up first.

As a huge caution, do NOT get the Genie-2 (HS17). Though it is 'newer' than the regular Genie line, it would be a huge downgrade to your setup. It forbids HDDVRs so you would lose all those tuners and recording space, plus the reliability of the boxes working independently (it has issues than all your TVs go down, not just one). It only allows Clients (Mini Genie, RVU TV, or Gemini).

Any way you go, read over the order confirmation to be sure all is as expected.
