operational programing

Is anyone else having trouble with their dvr's not recording programs or being unable to change what you want recorded?  This has been a continuing problem with these machines and Directv doesn't seem to be able to fix them.  Maybe they should hire people who know what they are doing.

No, neither of those problems is normal.  Give us some detailed examples of what you mean.

We do see posts from folks who micro manage their "to do" list and fret over the list's apparent slow response.  Most find that if they set up their series recordings and put the network series at the top of the priority list they can forget about the to do list, the DVR will manage just fine.

That being said there are a few programs that have odd coding and those require a manual setup to record reliably.

well programs are scheduled to record that I haven't scheduled or ones that I want to record wont.  You also can't eliminate one episidode to record some else

It's not just a slow response

Give us some specific examples.  The DVR should not be able to record shows that someone in your house didn't specify.  This is not a common problem.

Also, what model DVR do you have?  Your original post shows both the R15 and R16.  Which one?  Or do you have actually have both?  Do they both have this issue?

I have both models and both have the problem. I am the only one that programs the dvr's to record. The programs show up out of nowhere and I agrre that this shouldn't happen. But again the engineers at direvt tv don't or wont fix it

You still haven't told us anything about what is happening. Which programs are being recorded in error? And which programs are missing? What are you doing to change the programs you want recording, and isn't working? It's difficult for us to help without information. And this isn't a known issue so there is nothing to "fix". I can't help feeling you are misunderstanding something about how the DVR works and needs to be set up, or there is something wrong with the install. .

Which dish do you have, and how are these DVRs connected to the dish? How many cables? Any splitters?

Also, check the DVR's "History" menu.  What does it say about those "missing" recordings?

There is no consistent set of programs recorded or not recorded. The dvr's both have 2 cables and recorders in them. I did not set them up direct tv did when they were first installed and their technicans have been back to rewire the house to the dishes. Your technicans say it is a known issue and your engineers are supposed to be working on it.

No, this is not a known issue and the engineers are not "working on it". But you still have not given us enough info about what is actually happening.

To summarize the situation, and clarify the requests for more details ....

  • This is not a "known problem".  Based on the limited information you've provided, I can say I've never heard of a problem quite like this.
  • Nobody at DirecTV is "working on it".
  • We need to know exactly what recordings are mysteriously appearing on their own.  Give us specific examples.
  • If your desired recordings (the ones you set up yourself) are not being recorded, then there should be an entry for them in the DVR's "History" menu to tell you why they didn't record.
  • What do you mean by "You also can't eliminate one episidode to record some else".  Examples?
  • What are you doing to change the programs you want recording, and isn't working?

You know one of you say one thing another says the oposite this is pointing to a major problem in this company where no on talks to the other. You say it's not a know issue when your phone techs say it is. Maybe you should find out what's happening inside your tech support. I have told you waht is going on and I wont say it again

I am afraid that you are not ware that we are customers like yourself volunteering our spare time to help other folks enjoy their DirecTV experience.  These guys are trying to help you in good faith.  if you don't want to provide the specifics so we can try to assist you, then you can try to fix your issue with the CSR's which are oblivious to what is going on and just want to get you of the phone with the canned answer of "engineering is aware of the problem"

Yes, we are not DirecTV, we are all customers like you and we have no idea what you might have told the CSRs when you called. However, the group hereprobably has more knowledge about DirectV and its equipment than you will find when you call DirecTV support. Even though you haven't really told us what is going on, we certainly know it is not a known problem, and also therefore that DirecTv is not working to fix it. If you want our help, you will have to sit down and put together the specifics, in detail, because we can't guess at what you are doing and seeing.
