Pay-per-view programs unavailable on other DVRs with multi-room?

I just had my whole-home installation yesterday.  I have three HD-DVRs and three other HD receivers on the system.  Most things seem to work as advertised, but I notice that pay-per-view programs I download on one of the three DVRs only show up on the playlist for THAT particular DVR.  All other programs seems to show up on the playlists for the other DVRs and the other receivers.  Is that normal?  I assume it's probably some restriction imposed with respect to pay-per-view programs, but I just want to make sure there isn't anything wrong with the system.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I don't do pay per view very often so don't take all of this as tested fact. Some PPV is preloaded on your DVR and is available for instant view. When you select that to "download" it actually is already on the hard drive but the movie will appear in the play list. Movies that are truly downloaded from the server to your hard drive should appear in the play list and it would seem to me that the same would apply to the satellite receivers list. I'm pretty sure that Directv wouldn't restrict watching on all boxes because the watch now option in the order box allows just that. It might however be a bug, but I don't recall seeing this posted before. You might do a red button reset on the receiver not showing the movie.

Thanks for the quick response!  Here's some more information.  The programs I'm talking about are anything you must pay to view.  (I don't do this much either, so it's more an academic question than anything else.)  Some of these programs are available for download, and others you record during the particular times they are shown.  In either event, they simply sit there on your hard drive until watched, and you are not charged anything unless and until you watch one of them.  As noted above, each of these downloaded/recorded but as-yet-unwatched programs appears to reside only on the playlist of the DVR where it is recorded.  However, I just noticed since I first posted that I once I actually begin watching one of these programs on the DVR where I recorded it and confirm payment, it appears on the playlists for all the other boxes.  So I guess the lesson is that if you download or record a pay-per-view program on one DVR and want to watch it on another box, just start it on the box where you initially downloaded/recorded it, confirm payment on that box, and then go to another room and watch it on whatever box you want.

james,  That's great "troubleshooting", kudos to you.  This actually makes perfect sense when you think about it.  While the unpaid for movie is resident on the DVR's hard drive, the transaction is not complete and thus is unavailable to other networked boxes.  This is good stuff to know and I'll tuck it in my head for future use, thanks for posting this information.

No problem.  It's the least I can do with all the great information you provide.

jamesblanch,

This past weekend I purchased/watched a "Watch Now" PPV movie(On Demand recorded by DirecTV on their partition of the hard drive for instant viewing) on my HR20-700. After viewing the purchased movie on the HR20 it places the content in my HR20's Playlist where it remains for 24 hour viewing ability. I then went to my networked(hard-wired, not DECA) H21 HD Receiver and HR24 HD DVR in other rooms and I was able to view/play the movie from the HR20's Playlist fine remotely. Does that answer your question????

djdicetn,

Thanks for the reply.  Your experience is consistent with what I am observing.  The key appears to be that you have to begin watching a program and confirm payment on the DVR you used to order it, after which the program appears on the playlist for all other boxes.  Before you confirm payment, however, it only appears on the playlist for the DVR you used to record or download it.  It kind of makes sense if you think about it.

Yep, since the "Watch Now" On Demand content is recorded on the DirecTV partition of the hard drive on DVR "A" there is no way that DVR "B" can "know about it" until it is placed on the user partition(Playlist) of DVR "A" as purchased/viewable.
