putting a standard reciever in my workshop??

On december 24th my Directv service was hooked up. I wanted a reciever in my workshop but the installer said because it was over 100ft from the house the signal would be terrible. My question is: Can I get a standard reciever for another room in my house ($5 per month), and possibly buy a used single LNB dish from ebay, and hook the reciever to that dish in my shop to recieve the signal? Or does that reciever have to be somehow tied into my other two recievers? The shop is on the same lot as the house so I don't think I'd be violating any service agreement terms. I just figure $5 a month is better than the $500 for a tower antenna. Thanks for any help!
