RC73 remote won't pair for RF.

Hello,

I have a RC73 remote for my living room Genie HR54-500 and no matter what I do it would no longer pair to the box via RF or the tv/audio device. I tried new batteries and when that did not work purchased a new remote thinking it was a remote issue.

I have tried mute + enter and the green light on the remote blinks about 20 times then stops.  I've tried to reset the remote Mute + Select then 981.  after that try to pair  with the Mute + Enter and nothing happens. I've tried to manually setup with Mute + Select then 961 channel up (RF) or Mute+Select 961 channel down(IR) no matter what I only have basic IR connection and can't (Pair) the RF so I can program my TV and Vizio Tv  and Sound Bar.

I've tried this with both remotes same result.  I've reset the Genie box with the red button on the side and no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You,

Pat

We can help with this remote problem, @patlobb. You’ve done a ton of troubleshooting for this in advance, and thanks for going through those extra steps.

At this point, given everything you've done, it sounds like the issue is probably your HR54. Mute+Select+981 will set the remote to IR mode, and if that’s not working for two different remotes, the receiver's IR sensor has likely gone bad.

We would like you to check two more things, just to make sure this isn’t a remote problem:

  1. Make sure nothing is covering the front of your HR54: no glass cabinet doors, no Halloween decorations, even dust can interfere with the IR sensor. If possible, wipe down the front of the receiver, and try synching again by holding Mute+Enter for about 30 seconds. Make sure your remote is aimed directly at the front of the receiver, within about eight feet. If you see, “Your remote is now set up for RF” onscreen, you’re good to go.
  2. If possible, can you try synching your original remote to another receiver? The HR54 may be having problems, but we shouldn't rule out that the remote itself may still have gone bad. Using Mute+Enter to sync it to a different receiver is the fastest way to test. (If the HR54 is your only receiver, don’t worry about this step.)

If it’s still not working, we’ll mark the thread private, then gather your account information to get you a new HR54. Let us know how this goes, @patlobb!
