RC73 RF Mode
Mini Genie currently working in RF mode with a RC65RX The RC65RX buttons are failing. Trying to get a RC73 to work in RF mode BUT . . . .
Mini Genie instructions state to press and hold mute and select key - enter 9-6-1 - and press Ch Up - everything to this point APPEARS to work fine (LED flashes twice)
BUT - Step 2 on the Mini Genie says to Enter 695626 and then press SELECT - at THIS point - the RC73 flashes RED LED once (fail indication) however the RC65RX flashes green AND transitions to RF. Have tried this sequence repeatedly and unable to move forward. Have done a factory reset on the remote - no help. I've ordered a replacement RC65RX which is on its way - but it would be nice to implement the newer RC73

It won't work. The RC6x and RC7x remotes use different RF technology.

So the mini Genie is incompatible in RF mode with the RC7x - is THAT what you are saying?

Whether the two remote(s) use different RF tech isn't an issue - - as long as the Mini Genie can respond to both. I'm shocked if the mini-Genie is incompatible with RF on the RC7x.

If you are using an RC65rx to control a mini-genie it is doing it in IR not in RF. For RF all the genies use a different RF protocol which is not supported on an RC65 only on the RC73. You need to follow the RC73 instructions not the RC65.

@TexasBrit - the statement that the mini-genie is ONLY working in IR is incorrect. My genie has no visibility to my RC65RX. I can switch back and forth between IR and RF - - and must maintain line of site to the mini-genie when I do so. . . . . . .

To be clear - what I am referring to as a "mini-Genie" is a C31 (according to my network details)

The C31 Mini Genie is designed to use the older RC6x remotes, not the RC7x. You'll need an RC65RX or RC66RX with RF feature to use with your C31 Mini. Newer Mini Genies use the RC7x remotes.

"You need to follow the RC73 instructions not the RC65." - the instructions that pop up on the Genie are the same - irrespective of whether I am using (initially) the RC65RX or RC73. By setting the genie back to IR - I can control the STB with BOTH remotes. Then - invoking the Genie's RF to IR submenu - - I get the SAME SET OF INSTRUCTIONS - do the 6-9-1 ch-up (which works fine) and then a second step (input 695626) which works fine on the RC65RX BUT fails on the RC73. . . . . .where do I find instructions specific to the RC73 and how does the mini genie differentiate such that it will proceed thru this step (when I use the RC73)?

Again, the C31 Mini will NOT work in RF mode with the RC7x remotes. It's designed to use the RC6x remotes.

Hi @bbox231,thank you for reaching us out.
At this moment RC73 remotes (Genie remote control) are only compatible with IR technology. On the other hand, the RC65RX remotes (Universal remotes control) are compatible with RF. By the way, thanks for your advice @litzdog911.
Thank you for your insight about other technologies that our remotes might take advantage of; as soon as there is an update, our customers will be immediately notified.
In case you need assistance with your remote control. You might find options here.

What update? DTV no longer makes the C31 minis so all new minis use the RC7X remotes for RF.

Clearly there will not be any "update" to enable the older boxes to support the RC7x remote RF capability.

You need an RC6X remote with an "R" in the model number RC6XR

apologies to everyone. I had forgotten the C31 is the only genie client that uses the old rf technology
