Rebooting or restarting problems

Just got a replacement and it's doing the samething. I have been paying for their insurance since I started with them about 4 years. It's a plain dvr in my kids room. We also have 2 hd dvrS and a plain receiver in another room.

Tell us more about exactly what is going on. When does the DVRv restart?

Almost there a few more seconds and then black screen and fuzz. It keeps repeating

Call DirecTV to request a replacement Receiver/DVR.  It's free if you have their Equipment Protection Plan, or within 90-days of installation.  Otherwise ~$20 for shipping.  Or ~$50 to have a tech come replace it for you.

I just received this one today. They told me it wasn't covered unless I would unhook and try it in another room. I'm really tired of fooling with it, that's why I pay insurance so they will handle it

While it's not common, it's certainly possible that you received a defective DVR.  Just tell them you've tried what they suggested and you need another replacement.

If you have a weak satellite signal in that room then you may well have a tough time getting the receiver to start.  It requires a minimum signal in order to load the software etc.  If I were you, I'd take that receiver to a known good connection spot and confirm that the receiver is either faulty or the original location has a bad signal.

This is of benefit to you because if it's the wiring they will send a tech to fix it, and if it is the wiring no number of replacement boxes will correct the problem.

The CSR's request was actually spot on and is what we suggest in the same situation.
