Receiving local (OTA) channels with receiver model H25-100
My stepdad recently moved into an assisted living apartment and that has DirectTV using a H25-100 receiver. We had Dish network for 25 years or longer at our house and I know how to use it and set things up, but not so much on DirectTV.
In any event I am just wondering if there is a way to set it up, so that he can get our local channels easily. I know I can connect an antenna via coax cable direct to the TV, but then that requires him to switch from HDMI1 to coax to an access the local channels. This person fro starters has Dementia and I am sure he would have problems from the get go. I could not see anyplace on the back of the receiver where I could connect an antenna.
Also I wonder if there is a way to filter out all of the channels that his assisted living complex does not subscribe to. The DriectTV guide keeps showing lots of channels that the complex does not subscribe to and this is confusing/frustrating him.
Lasting is there a place where I can download and print out a manual for this receiver.

You should be able to setup a favorites list with only the channels he wants.

For what ever reason DirecTV (at least doesn't show on thir website) doesn't offer our locals. It however, looks like I can use what is called a Local Channel Connector (LCC). The only thing is that DirecTV provided them free to customers who lost local channel(s) during contract disputes and just didn't sell them to anyone (may not even be available from them anymore). I also was told that there is a similar item called the AM21, but it was discontinued several years ago. I may have to check eBay or Amazon to see if can find one of the above listed items.
Lastly I will have to look again, but I do not remember seeing an option for creating a favorites list. If I can find a manual I should find instructions there. Really just wnat to the option of only seeing the channels that the complex subscribes to, instead of everything.

You have to contact the MDU company that has the contract to service the property.

Just a warning. Many assisted living facilities use directv systems that are not the same as usual consumer systems. Most of them use modified H25 receivers.
Even if you could find an am21 or LCC it would not work with an H25 (modified or not), it only works with some DVR models.

Thanks, TexasBrit the menus on that appear on the TV screen do not look the same as what I am seeing in pictures online. This leads me to believe that the receiver is modified, as you have suggested. Also I did find a LCC on eBay. I did make the seller an offer for less than they had it listed for and ut was accepted, so I am not out that much money. Also I can try to resale it on eBay to recoupe some of my costs. Was told by a nurse at the complex that DirecTV is including with his room and board and that we can sign up for Spectrum Cable with the bill coming to us. We are arleady paying an arm and a leg for room and board, so really hoping to not spend anymore money. I will have to play around the remote next week when I am there to see I can edit the programing lists or create a favorites list.

Right. That LCC won't work with an H25.

We regularly get posts from people who don't realise they are not using a standard H25. The version for MDUs particularly assisted living facilities only offer a subset of directv channels, but that usually includes locals. One giveaway is if the channel selection includes stuff that is generated within the facility itself like management messages or a message board.
