Recording a game tomorrow

Quick question -  I just received the DVR yesterday and I plan on taping a foot ball game at 1pm tomorrow but I plan on being back home at 2pm.  My question is, can I start watching the recorded game in the middle of the recording and not mess up the rest of the recording?   Will it record the rest of the game while I start watching what was already recorded?
