Recording problem

I have my DVR set to record a series and it will start around 3 PM to record a 8 PM scheduled program then keep recording for up to 10 hours

Tech support says it is a known problem with my model DVR but does not affect all of them. They say it is a software problem but don't know when it will be fixed. Mean while I  have to scan 10 hours of programing to watch 1 hour .
