Remote Control + Apple TV

I recently acquired a older Apple TV from my Uncle. He didn't give me the remote for it.

So, I don't have a Apple Remote so I cannot do the automatic control setup via the Apple TV. How can I get my DirecTv remote to work without going through the Apple TV's menu (because I can't).
