Replacement DVR

I have a HD DVR, Model HR21-100 that is stopping and skipping. I have had it for 17 years.  If I ask Direct TV for a replacement, what model will they replace it with?  How much will I have to pay (or do I have to pay) as the dvr is leased from Direct Tv?

Traditionally with a warranty replacement you get same model or newer of the same model line. Unfortunately, DirecTV has not made regular HDDVRs in years so the last one (HR24) might not be available if they are out of stock. It would be $19.95 delivery, or covered if you are paying for the Equipment Protection Plan.

DirecTV was pushed heavily into an all-in-one setup (Genie or Genie-2) by AT&T. Hopefully now that they have sold off their part of DirecTV the remaining owner will change direction on this.

If that is not your only box, what are the models of your others? With that old a setup most agents will offer an "upgrade", so best to be prepared on what would be the best option for your personally.

Hi, @Delta43 You'll receive a like-for-like receiver at $0 for the equipment. Shipping may be up to $19.95 if you are not subscribed to the DIRECTV PROTECTION PLAN. One other note, if the box gets replaced the recordings do not transfer over. They are encrypted to their exact DVR. That includes if you have been using an external eSATA hard drive.
