RF Remote range of operation new Recvr

I just had my system upgraded for HD (changed out DVR R22-100 with HR21-700).  I have 2 RF remotes (1 living room, 1 BR) which have both worked fine in controlling my old DVR from my BR, which is about 30' away (thru 2 walls).  Same remotes with new DVR barely control this DVR only if I find the right position in my BR and it's still hit & miss.  Am I stuck with this scenario or is there a 'trick' to increase the range of my new DVR to gain range---tried moving it around in my cabinet (which has open front & back--no doors) with no appreciable differences.

BTW, the HD is worth the $10/mo on my new LCD TV, of which the display (altho sharp & great color) didnt impress me when I only had SD!
