Scam call I received yesterday
I received a call from a call center yesterday. The man said he was calling about my tv services. I asked what services I had and he said Directv. So I thought there was a chance it was a legit call. He then said they needed to ensure I was getting all my channels and that I needed to turn on my tv and hold the info button for 5 seconds. He also said that because I was such a good customer always paying my bill on time that there would be a discount in my next bill. At this point, something didn't feel right and I hung up. So my question is...what access does holding my info button for 5 seconds give a hacker? And how would they be getting into my system?

It gives them nothing, and they can't get into your system. It's just a way of making you obey a command they give you. Something more important would have come next. They would have told you they could give you extra channels, but your receiver need updating and that would cost you $125 - in gift cards probably. One of several scams that are out there.

Beware - Just received a call from 'Direct TV' needing to upgrade my boxes because a satellite was going away. Sounded legit until they told me it would be $150 to upgrade. I hung up and called Direct TV - they confirmed it costs $0 and good thing I hung up with them.
