Searching for Signal in Satellite 2 over and over again
So, a few weeks ago, we started getting a "Searching for Satellite 2" message on certain channels (usually NickJr and some other cable channels in that numbered range) -- sometimes you could still view that channel with that message just showing on the screen; other times just the message would appear on a black screen.
Every time it happens, we either go through the "repeat guided set-up" thing or we just unplug/reboot.
Prior to this happening, it always shows the signal strength in both satellites as around 98%. When it happens, it obviously shows 0% in satellite 2. Sometimes the problem gets triggered when I try to Tivo something; other times just randomly. Needless to say, recording two programs on two different channels simultaneously does not work AT ALL for us right now.
My husband switched out the satellite cables to see if we'd get a searching for signal in satellite 1 message, but nope, still in #2. He replaced the S-Video 1 cable with something else (don't know these details since I'm not electronics savvy). The dish appears to stable and not misaligned in any way.
We did get the GSOD one day last week, but it miraculously repaired itself in less than 2 hours (wasn't expecting it to). Do you think our receiver is just going bad? My husband called today to find out about a service call and was told:
1) Regular service call = $79.95
2) Get protection plan = $5.99/month AND $29.95 for first service call (does this mean that additional service calls are free?).
Seems like we'd be making out better with #1 assuming we lease the equipment anyway and we don't anticipate another service call. Not sure, though.
Thoughts? Advice? Thanks in advance!
