Setting up portable dish at RV
We've never had any problems setting up a portable dish when camping until we got the H20 and a slimline 3. Using the round dish and an old receiver was a piece of cake. Now we have the H20 and a portable slimline 3 and can't get it going. We did get it to work at home but it wasn't HD. No problem. We can live with that. But we are at the site now and can't get it to work at all. When I go into the Repeat Guided setup and change the dish to Slimline 3 (we have a slimline 5 at home) and change the zip to get the new co-ordinates, it's like it's not accepting the change. If we hit continue from there, it says it's not getting a satellite signal. If I check signal strength from there, they are all zeros and the co-ordinates listed on top are still the ones from home and not the ones with my new selection. I have multi-switch selected for home and the portable. There is a BBC connected. I didn't want this new receiver, but Directv told me I had to have it and swapped all my old ones out a year or so ago so now I don't have an old one anymore.
Help!!
Thanks!
Mary

You stated that you have Single Wire Multiswitch. Is this at home, your portable dish, or both? I'm guessing that your dish at home is SWM and that's why they made you swap out your old equipment. And this new dish probably is not SWM (you can determine by looking at the back of the LNB assembly .... does it have four output connectors or one? If four, then it's not SWM).
If you have a SWM dish at home, you'll need to follow these steps to reconfigure your H20 for non-SWM ....
From the Menu
You can get the appropriate aiming coordinates and mapping tools at http://www.dishpointer.com

Sorry- I saw multiswitch and checked it. I didn't realize I was checking SWM. I'm not sure what we have at home. The new dish has four outputs. Does it matter which of the four the output comes from? Do we never enter the zip code because the co-ordinates on the screen are the ones from the house? We got the co-ordinates from the website you linked and the finder is getting a strong signal. I followed the steps you listed (and that is what we have done a hundred times already) and still nothing. When we continue and it goes to verify confiiguration, it says the signal could not be detected.
Thanks!

1. No, it does not matter which dish output you use.
2. The zip code means nothing. It just provides the starting aiming coordinates for your location. Use Dishpointer instead.
3. You might be aimed at the wrong satellite. Which transponders have signals?

We just tried again and we don't have any signal on any transponder. Earlier, we were getting some on 17 through 32 in the 80's and 90's. But when we continued from that point, it still said no signal so we tried again and can't get back to anything.

You were probably pointed at the 119 satellite. Move the dish 20 degrees to the left and then slowly move it back until you get the 101 satellite. The sat finders are pretty worthless, there are so many satellites up there and they don't know which one they are receiving.

Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page. Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's. With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far. And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.
