There is no way to pick and choose what advertisements you get.
If you have DirecTV satellite (not the streaming-only service), then if you disconnect your boxes from the internet the pause screen saver will eventually revert back to the basic logo one instead of the advertisements/landscape one. Anything recorded may still have it injected though.

Direct TV needs to consider its customers. I’m not the only one sick of seeing Ru Paul every time the screen saver comes on.
If I can’t change the add, then how do I stop that offensive screen saver?
Forcing customers to see this crap, again and again, is just wrong!!!!

Instructions to stop the advertisement/landscape screen saver and go back to the basic logo screen saver is in the prior post.
Advertisements cannot be chosen. And regular customer support has no way to address this exact issue. You could try a BBB complaint so you are heard at the corporate level. Otherwise, just ignore the pause screen.

If you have Directv Stream there is no way to get rid of it. All you can do unfortunately is when it pops on it is to hit the ok button on your remote and it will make the advertisement go away while keeping your show paused. But I 100% agree with you I do not like that ad or the new witch ad that they have when you pause.

Juniper - I assure you, the Better Business Bureau, as well as Direct TV Corporate and social media will be my next step, if this NONSENSE continues.
Thank you for the replies.

I've called 3 times on this and threatened to disconnect! It falls on deaf ears. I'm not homophobic, but I have kids / grandkids that I DON'T WANT THIS SEEN ON MY TV SERVICE!!!!!!!!!! So I'm shopping... maybe YouTube TV or Sling or anything I can to get this out of my Livingroom!!!

Could the liberal executives of DirectTV please stop shoving their admiration for homo(Edited per community guidelines)ual behavior down our throats? Please introduce / push / promote this to your own families, not ours!!!

I found a "fix" thru another forum just now that seems to work (I've been looking for this fix specifically because of the bright flashing annoying RuPaul ad, btw... The others are horrible too but this is particularly annoying when you're watching in the dark etc).
Here's what I did:
When you're watching something, hit pause then the "..." button on your remote and leave what comes up (it gives you the info on a show). It works!! You just see what you were watching, then, based on my personal setting, the screensaver comes in after 5 min 🙌🏼 Such a relief. Hate seeing so much spam!

@stanmiller1 I'm not a liberal but no matter what- liberal/conservative/human- your post is really inappropriate and it makes me sad that you have so much anger. I wish you'd reconsider and show kindness. I'm not a fan of RuPaul or the show. Just a fan of being kind. Life's hard enough as it is.
Hope my research helps anyone and everyone!

@spange I pay a good amount of cash for DIRECTV. To be honest, I don't want my kids, grandkids or any of my family being exposed to Drag Queens. What is "being appropriate?" Is DirecTV being appropriate slamming this stuff in my Livingroom? Is doing or saying nothing appropriate? It's not hate like you're implying, it's called protecting my family and their young impressionable minds from immoral behavior. Is inviting drag queens in to 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms for story time mentally healthy for young children? Is this appropriate? I think not.

Pause screen advertisements get equal opportunity. If you have satellite, then you have the instructions above to revert back to the simple log screen saver.
With respect to you decide what media is allowed in your household, eventually those kids grow up and will make their own decisions on how they see the world. You provide your guidance, but you cannot block exposure to your family from the rest of the world forever. And of course no pay TV provider has control over the advertisements of the individual channels.
The only way to completely avoid any of this is either no TV or using removable media (VHS tapes, DVDs, etc.) that have no advertisements at all (or perhaps just for other programming from the same company).

I signed up for this forum just to tell you I 100% agree with you. I'm sick of it blasting me every time I pause. Shouldn't be forced upon us for the prices we pay.

I found that if I hit pause and then hit the arrow down on my controller, that seems to keep the ad from comming up while it is paused

I just went to settings in the directtv streaming app, select system, seect device preferences, scroll down and select screen saver, and toggle off the screen saver.
Now my screen pauses the show, just no screen saver…. So don’t pause for too longッ
